Visa on Arrival
The most common and convenient way for tourists to get a visa is upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu or at certain land border crossings.
Procedures:
Online Application: It is recommended to fill out the “Tourist Visa ‘On Arrival'” form online within 15 days of your arrival. You can find this form on the official website of the Department of Immigration of Nepal. Filling it out beforehand can help you save time at the airport. You can also use the kiosks at the airport to complete the application.
Documents:
- A valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and at least one blank visa page.
- A recent passport-sized photograph.
- Payment for the visa fee in cash (major currencies like USD are preferred, but other major currencies may be accepted). It is advisable to have a backup in case card payments are not an option.
Process at the Airport:
- Fill out the online form if you haven’t already.
- Go to the visa fee collection counter and pay the appropriate fee.
- Take the payment receipt and your filled-out online form to the immigration desk.
- An immigration officer will process your visa and affix it to your passport.
Visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission
You can also obtain a visa from a Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country before you travel.
Procedures:
Online Application: Complete the online visa application form on the website of the specific embassy or consulate.
Documents:
- Printed copy of the online visa application confirmation page.
- Your original passport with at least six months of validity and at least two blank pages.
- Passport-sized photograph(s) as specified by the embassy.
- Visa fee payment (usually through a money order or bank transfer).
- Other supporting documents as required by the specific embassy (e.g., a return envelope with tracking for postal applications).
