Pisang Peak, located in Nepal’s Annapurna region, offers an exciting opportunity for exploration and mountaineering. Its western flank is guarded by a hanging glacier, presenting a notable challenge, while the western end of the ridge features large rock slabs that make the climb more technical. The peak was first successfully climbed by a German expedition in 1955.
Rising above Pisang village and surrounding yak pastures, Pisang Peak ascends in a smooth slope of ice and snow leading to the summit pyramid. Although considered one of Nepal’s lower trekking peaks, it provides an excellent mountaineering experience.
To reach the base camp, follow the Annapurna Circuit trekking route to Upper Pisang or Pisang village. From there, the trail passes through sparse forest and pastures, ascending to a kharka at 4,380 meters (14,366 ft), which is the ideal location for the base camp.
The high camp is established at 5,400 meters on a shoulder of the South-West Ridge. From late November to the end of March, this camp is covered in snow. The well-marked ridge leads to the final steep snow slope, which is manageable, allowing climbers to reach the summit. Descending is done along the same route.
